RM Aviators

The Corps was represented among the early pioneers of aviation, two Marine officers having earned their wings as early as 1911. More officers joined and Lt Colonel C H Collet RMA led the first air attack on the German zeppelin sheds in September 1914. When the RNAS and the Royal Flying Corps merged to become the Royal Air Force in 1918, 10 Royal Marine officers transferred to the new service.
