In addition the Royal Marines have been affiliated to the town of
Exmouth since 1968.

Note:
It is often wrongly believed that the Royal Marines have the freedom of the City of London. The Corps has its origins in the Trained Bands of the City of London and was allowed to recruit from within the city bounds. They enjoy the privilege, along with other selected regiments, of marching through the City 'with drums beating, Colours flying and bayonets fixed'. The Corps was affiliated to the church of St Lawrence Jewry, Guildhall on 23 April 1974.
