In July 1998 a partnership was formed between the MOD, the Directorate
of Military Outplacement Services (DMOS), and a private sector outplacement
company, Coutts Consulting Group PLC to give Resettlement a more civilian
edge. All Service personnel with 3 or more years' service are eligible
to register. There is no pressure to do so - it is a personal choice.
Generally registration is advisable if only to access a consultant's interview,
his/her advice and opinions. This element does not count against GRT.
The CTP will provide: CTP workshops, briefings and seminars (normally accommodated in Service establishments). Briefings run by NRIO Portsmouth (for which no allowances may be claimed). Training (IRTC, subsistence and GRT warrants as necessary): CTP courses at Resettlement Training Centres or CTP sponsored courses with Preferred Suppliers. A Civilian Training Attachment (CTA) covering any formal training at a college, training organisation or firm. A module of an ongoing course eg. Open University. A Civilian Work Attachment (CWA), an outplacement taken with a civilian organisation to gain knowledge and experience in the civilian workplace. It attracts subsistence and GRT warrants if appropriate. You should consider carefully the value of a CWA - will it lead to a Job, enhance a skill, provide an opportunity to network or introduce you to an industry? Finally, will it fit into your Resettlement plan? Countermarch might provide such a placement. Individual Resettlement Preparation (IRP) is for approved activities
which do not fall into other categories. Examples of such activities are
searching for housing or schools in a new area, attending a job interview
or assessment day, cold calling, personal planning, CV and speculative
letter writing. IRP does not attract subsistence although GRT warrants
may be used. Following your Initial Interview you may opt to register with the CTP and attend their Workshops. Career Transition Options Workshop (2'/2 Days) - for Officers/SNCOs only.
Primarily designed for those with between 30 and 18 months to go who have
not yet decided on a career path. The workshop explores options and aspirations
for the future. It looks at skills/competencies, training/development
needs, self-promotion and personal development plans. A consultant's interview
is not included - that may be undertaken either before or after the workshop.

(At this point you should have attended an Initial and Final Interview and, if registered with the CTP, completed a CTW and perhaps some of their other briefings).
